The blades of the Werner Rio Kayak Paddle are made from a fibreglass-reinforced nylon plastic. This material provides good durability, although it is heavier and less stiff compared to the materials used in the Werner Premium Paddle blades such as the Werner Surge and Powerhouse.  In summary, the Werner Rio White Water Kayak Paddle is a great paddle at an affordable price.
