VE Aircore Vanda

The VE Vanda is a light and efficient paddle designed primarily for low angle touring. This is an evolution of the popular Voyager model - the Vanda has a blade weight around 30% lighter than the Voyager. The blade tip on the Vanda is 60% thinner at the end which reduces the swing weight and provides a cleaner catch which can reduce fatigue especially when covering longer distances. These paddles also perform very well at higher angles too so are a versatile addition to your kit. An ideal choice for paddlers aiming to put in plenty of distance over a long day or just out for a wander along the coast in varying conditions.

To the eye these blades can initially look small compared with the more traditional 'Euro blade' touring designs however the Vanda actually has a larger blade area than many popular touring blades such as the Werner Shuna. The blade tip has a relatively low area providing a very clean catch, you will feel the power build through the stroke and are very unlikely to experience any flutter. The narrow asymmetic shape and flattened off tip with just a gentle curve along the blade length provides a very precise feel right through to the exit of each stroke. This blade design makes them very predictable during sculling, bow rudders, draws etc. The Aircore construction keeps the weight down and provides good buoyancy and support whilst in the water and the press moulded edge keeps the stroke clean.

The Vanda is available in a 2-part Carbon shaft. Shafts are subtly ovaled on both sides making them suitable for right handed or left handed paddlers. The level of indexing provides for maximised grip without interfering with rotation. The finish on the shafts is smooth but far from slippery.

Just flip the nylon lever-lock open and it takes seconds to adjust the length (up to 10cm), or the blade feather angle, without the need for tools. There are no pre-set click points so you can get exactly the length and angle that suite you within the 10cm range. If the wind gets up and the sea gets lively just increase your feather and shorten the shaft on the go for great high angle strokes and if it is gentle you can stretch it out reduce the feather and do some lower angle paddling. On a long journey regardless of conditions the change of feather, length and stroke style can be a great way of relieving the strain of repetitive movement!
