Hobie Mirage Outback
Hobie's best selling fishing kayak. Features a wide stable platform for fishing, with a sharper bow design for efficient forwards pedalling with minimal hull slap. This makes the Outback great for inland waterways, and inshore coastal waters in calm to moderate conditions. This is a very capable kayak for the majority of UK kayak fishing!
The Outback is powered by the incredibly efficient Mirage Drive 180 pedal system, allowing full power pedalling in forwards and reverse. The drive is fitted with Kick Up Turbo Fins as standard. This allows for hands-free kayaking, offering a number of advantages for kayak fishing, on-the-water photography and much more! You can pedal along whilst trolling a lure, drifting a bait, playing a fish, or even whilst eating your lunch! You can pedal in forwards or reverse at the simple pull of a toggle. The Kick-Up fins will also knock up out of harms way should you strike an object under the surface, therefore reducing the chance of damaging your fins. They will automatically re-engage as you keep pedalling. The Outback ensures excellent comfort for long days on the water with the Vantage CTW seating system, which has been increased in width from the previous Outback for a more spacious seating area.
Features are absolutely crammed onto this kayak, making this one of the best fishing kayak currently available. The main cockpit features a centre rectangiular hatch with integrated bucket, pockets and even a bottle opener. Foam EVA standing pads are fitted either side of the hatch for stand-up fishing on calm waters. Forwards of the seat the sides have built-in gear storage areas, hookless maps pockets, H-Track and H-Rail deluxe with built in track - perfect for attaching accessories too such as fish finders and rod holders.
A large bow hatch allows storage of larger items such as a fold-up trolley. The large rear cargo area will easily take your days catch, a storage crate or cool bag. Sections of H-Track can be found at the sides of this area for further gear attachment, compatible with all popular track mount accessory systems such as Ram Mounts, Railblaza and Scotty. The Outback steering is controlled with dual-sided steering handles either side of the seat and an uphaul cord in the foot well. A Kick-up rudder is situated beneath the stern for optimal action, giving a good turning circle - ideal for weaving in and out of features. 4 flush mount rod holders come fitted to the hull as standard.
The Outback comes fitted with the new retractable Guardian Transducer Sheild, which accomodates larger side scan transducers and standard size transducers. This houses the transducer on a spring-loaded platform which will move up into the kayak if the transducer hits an obstacle or the bottom. It can also be completely retracted for launching and landing. A series of Thur-Hull cable seals are also fitted to the hull to make fish finder installation simpler.
The outback also comes with a nifty load-assister, which clips onto rear handle. This allows the outback to be lifted on it's stern without scratching the hull or leaning on the rudder, to make things easier when getting the kayak up onto a roof rack.
