Shore Sea Fishing off Beara |
|
|
Shore angling is tough around Beara, where to fish, what mark is fishing well and so many marks to choose from. Beara puts the shore angler under a lot of pressure and a cool head is needed. If you want a big Pollock or a double figure Ling or a conger you need to fish the deep marks likes those on the Cod's Head or Black Ball Head. Big mullet feed on most of the coast but the biggest are in the Castletownbere area. Plaice and ray from the rocks under Dunboy Woods and so on. What is really great about Beara is the local authority has produced a leaflet listing a wide range of productive marks. These are genuinely good marks that produce good fish. A good tip is to discriminate against the doggies, fish moving bait or keep your bait just off the bottom after dark. Spinning over the deep water rough marks is Pollock territory but you need to stop the bigger fish getting their heads down amongst the rough. Bass fishing is best from October to February, which comes as a nice winter treat. Beara does not have the miles of sand that the Kerry and Dingle peninsulas have but there is still plenty of sandy areas to fish.
